Open Call to Art Students, Artists & Writers

We invite applications from practitioners of all art disciplines.

Description of residency program
OPEN CALL: The Pfaelzer Hof comfortably hosts six artists and writers at any one time. We offer a beguiling setting closely connected to the historic past, and a not yet envisioned future, in the heartland of the EU. From us you can easily reach Trier (Germany's oldest city), Mainz, Frankfurt, Luxemburg, Paris and Brussels by train.

Duration of residency
Four weeks, with the option to stay longer.

Disciplines, work equipment and assistance
We are interested to hear from art students and artists from all disciplines as well as writers to come into a peaceful, spacious and light environment to develop their practices within an urban context yet closely surrounded by nature and woodland.

Residents stay in one of our three spacious and beautiful apartments. Each apartment is well appointed and has its own bathroom and fully equipped kitchen. There is WiFi throughout the house. Depending on who is staying there are shared dinners to enable discussion, exchange and potentially forge collaboration.

We have a studio dedicated to painting and a project room / public gallery that can be used for sculpting and other types of making / installing.

Residents also have access to studio work space within the apartment that they are staying in, for example writers or film makers / photographers might like to use one of the rooms as a study.

Depending on the number of residents, artists may share studio space. We liaise with residents and always ensure there is plenty of physical space for artistic engagement.

Fees and support
Conditions: €1,400 residency fee for up to four weeks. Includes accommodation, studio / project room, gallery exhibition space and contact with mentor / curator to help you make the most of your stay.

Expectations towards the artist
We expect artists to make good use of their special time with us but we do not expect "results". More important is a willingness to reflect on experiences of being here and the creative process, and we enjoy supporting you in this journey.

We do like artists to have an interview with the local press about their stay. Workshops, talks and exhibitions can be arranged and ideas and proposals are welcome.

Application information
Please apply with a short proposal (250 words), a description of your practice and a link to your website or images / texts.
