Artist residency in SW France

Self-Directed residency in South West France. Offering a change of pace and the space to create.

Studio Faire is a contemporary art space in South West France, providing residencies for artists, writers, designers and all other types of creative practitioner.

Studio Faire is now accepting applications from all creative practitioners for this 2 week residency between 31 October – 13 November 2019.

The residency is based in a beautiful ‘Maison de maître’ built around 1840 and still retaining its period characteristics. Situated in the market town of Nérac, in the stunning Lot-et-Garonne region, on the northern edge of Gascony, here you will find the ‘real’ unspoilt France. Medieval Villages are surrounded by green rolling hills that lead your eye to the horizon via fruit orchards and vines. The perfect place to slow down and focus.

Disciplines and assistance
This particular residency is open to creative practitioners working in all media.

Your hosts have many skills between them. Colin Usher is a Photographer and Digital Media expert and Julia Douglas a Mixed Media Artist (specialising in Textiles) and Web Designer. They are also well connected in the area and willing to share their knowledge and contacts with you during your stay. There will be two other residents at Studio Faire during your stay with whom you can share information and ask for feedback.

A professional photoshoot of you and your work is also included.

Studio & Accommodation
The ‘Garage’ studio is perfect for creating all types of works of art. It has a large North facing double door so good natural light during the day and no direct sunshine. This door faces the road, so there is a little noise as cars go past, but it’s not a fast road and there’s barely any foot traffic. Trestle tables and a a table top easel are provided and there is sink for cleaning out brushes and so forth.

The large double bedroom benefits from being at the back of the house (so no road noise!) and a view over the one acre gardens through two large windows. There is gallons of light as it is a South facing garden. It hasn't been modernised yet, so it still holds the shadows of past lives in it’s subtle 1960s wallpaper.

This 2 week, self-directed residency is a self-funded residency for 1 person. Fees include the private room and studio detailed above, plus shared shower room with toilet, kitchen, dining room and gardens. A professional photoshoot is also included.

2 weeks for 1 person is 640 €.

Expectations towards the artist
As this is a self-funded residency, Studio Faire has no expectations towards the artist and hope that this supportive environment, without the pressure to produce, will aid creativity, experimentation and the development of new ideas.

Studio Faire offers all creative practitioners a change of pace and the space to create.
