Takt Residency Berlin:
Is a small private (mainly family run) project (not a big institution!) started as a gallery (Takt Kunstprojektraum) in 2003.
The residency project was founded in 2007 By Marcus Ahlers and Antje Görner.
We invite the artists to come to Takt from abroad for a certain amount of time to work here without disturbances.
If you are searching for a friendly space to work on your own in peace, this is it!
Our selection of artists takes into consideration many aspects such as educational level, the project you intend to work on, diversity, etc. There's generally no age limit at Takt.
Please check our website to get an overview about former residents.
What we don't offer is a tough competitive situation.
We organize weekly art critics and talks (English language is prefered at all meetings and talks) however we don't want to be an art school with focus on exclusivity.
We strive for a wide variety of artists who want to work on their own projects and are willing to share their experiences, while enjoying time in a vibrant city. Of course you are welcome to travel during your stay but please take into consideration the weekly talks and other events.
Takt is situated in Friedrichshain, in former East Berlin (next to Kreuzberg and Mitte).
Friedrichshain might be the hippest area in town at the moment, very vibrant, full of bars, cafes, restaurants and shops. Within walking distance are Boxhagener Platz with Saturday and Sunday markets and Frankfurter Allee with it's old Stalin era buildings.
All of our studios are street level at a very quiet back streets.
The Studios:
Next to our gallery Kunstraum Tapir is the Tapir Residency, it has four live/work studios.
There's also a big studio which is mainly a shared studio, depending on the month
All of the studios have wooden floors
The building is old and charming
The bathroom has toilet and shower and in the kitchen is space for four people to sit and chat (maybe more...)
The space has two separate entrances which provides privacy and peace
Residency M6 is our smallest apartment space.
It's cosy, with three live/work studios
A shared kitchen and a nook with a table and chairs
The bathroom has a toilet and shower
The space is mainly shared with two other artists however, it's also perfect if you prefer to be on your own
Residency M14 is again a big apartment space with three live/work studios.
There's a shared kitchen and bathroom (toilet is separate)
The fourth studio is our office
The Residency for Writers or Digital Media Artists is a two room apartment at Prenzlauerberg for one artist (it doesn't have a studio for painting, sculpture, etc)
There's a kitchen and a bathroom
The neighborhood is a very tranquil and beautiful area
If you want to work in peace and like to stay on your own it's perfect.
It's also possible for artists (that do not need a studio and have children with children to stay). In that case we can help provide for any special needs

The Program:
At the beginning of your stay, Takt organizes an initial meeting to welcome everyone and give them the opportunity to introduce themselves and their projects to the group.
We have regular talks with a visiting artist at our studios, residents are asked to show and discuss their new works.
There's also a weekly event to "introduce" you to Berlin (these include gallery visits, concerts, studio visits of Berlin based artists and visits of collections in town, etc.)
We do our best to assist and support, but we don't individually guide the groups and are not responsible for contacts between artists and galleries.
Each artist is responsible for their own activities. We can't connect you with the art scene of Berlin, we only can suggest you which opening you should visit etc. - you need to be able to find your own way!
Please note that after this residency you won't have a solo at Guggenheim.... ;)
We will curate a group show at the end of each three month stay (March, June, September and December).
The curator selects the artists and their works for the final show.
We send out a newsletter for every opening and we are listed online (check out our current network: http://taktberlin.org/residency/links.htm)
Takt curates (or supports) shows at the Tapir gallery and other partner galleries/showrooms.
We are one of the independent project spaces in Berlin and also very interested in being a part of the local cultural network (for example organising gallery visits and projects for daycares, preschools and schools).
