Live and work in Chattanooga up to 4 weeks to create an exhibition for our Film Festival, April 5-8!

Description of residency program
For five years, the Chattanooga Film Festival has continued its mission to fill four days in early April with as much incredible film, music, comedy and art as humanly possible, including films, parties, workshops, and good times. For its 5th year, ARC: Artist Residency Chattanooga and CFF are partnering for the first Featured Exhibiting Artist Residency in what is hopefully a new  festival tradition. The selected artist will live and work 2-4 weeks in Chattanooga leading up to the festival April 5-8. We provide a studio for the artist to create a new installation or exhibition of work that will be displayed around the festival venue and be exposed to over 10,000 local & national festival attendees. There is potential for networking, press, and other opportunities.

Duration of residency
Artists will select anywhere from 2-4 weeks leading up to the festival:

  • 2 Weeks - March 25 - April 8 (11 days "in studio")
  • 3 Weeks - March 18 - April 8 (18 days "in studio")
  • 4 Weeks - March 11 - April 8 (25 days "in studio")

Disciplines, work equipment and assistance
Open to artists working in any discipline. Access to some basic wood and metal working tools are available, and our resources can provide working with most any medium. Some limited assistance is available if needed.

Artists will lodge with En Root House, a local hostel, in one of the Co-ed Dorm Style Rooms. More information about En Root is available on their website

Studio/ workspace
Studio/workspace will vary depending on the artist's proposed project and specific facility needs. Some local resources we have access to for the artist include the 4th Floor Maker LabScenic City Clay Arts, Reify, and the ChattLab Maker Space

Fees and support
$25 application fee. Selected artist receives the following at no cost:

  • Lodging
  • Space to create work 
  • Featured Artist exhibition for the duration of the festival
  • Exposure to over 10,000 visitors, filmmakers, special guests
  • Your own CFF 2018 VIP Badge ($200 value)
    - Access to all Films, Workshops, Parties, events
    - Exclusive access to the VIP Outing field trip
    - Priority tickets & seating to films & events
    - Other perks

We are working with the Chattanooga Film Festival and the Footprint Foundation to award a stipend to the selected artist for this residency. We will make an announcement once this has been determined. 

Expectations towards the artist
 Artists will need to provide the following:

  • Exhibition/Installation at CFF 2018
  • Travel/food/other living expenses
  • Materials/Supplies/Special Tools
  • Art handling (post festival)
  • Donation of a work of art to ARC
