Art, Ecology & Science

Free accommodation and flights for a project about the science of details in material studies.

Description of ARNA's residency program
ARNA is a nonprofit organization. We support a sustainable development in the The Avian Kingdom with the vision that it one day will be the world's first UNESCO biosphere reserve to include the cultural dimension of sustainability. In the center of our work we place our artist in residence, where artists explore and express humans relationships towards nature. Each artist dedicate a couple of weeks of work, a time of exploring art and nature that give back to The Avian Kingdom a great variety of expressions, as through; photography, poetry, sculpture, music, animation, visual and mixed media arts.

Art project - Art, Ecology & Science
When we seek to understand the connections that brings life on Earth, we also support humankind's opportunity to continue to live here in the future. So how can the Arts describe the very search for a greater understanding through the science of details?

Call for applications
The ARNA-project Art, Ecology & Science welcomes applications from artists within all disciplines to develop the theme "Perspective through details" in connection to the science center in Lund for material studies. The 4 week residency includes free accommodation and flights for 2 participating artists.

Aim for the ARNA-project Art, Ecology & Science
The project study how art can connect the two visions, for a UNESCO biosphere reserve and the material studies at the science area of Brunnshög. The long term goal is to develop a permanent residency program for both.

Aim for the residency period through this call
The residency period is developed in a cooperation between ARNA and Science Village Scandinavia. They are responsible for the development of the physical area between the two science facilities MAX IV and ESS are situated, including a future visitor center for science and culture.
Two participating artists chosen from this call will for the very first time explore where the arts meet the science of material studies at a site where a UNESCO biosphere reserve meet science facilities. As in Art, Ecology & Science.
The theme to work through is "Perspective through details" and the question to discuss is "How can the Arts describe the very search for a greater understanding through the science of details?".

Duration of residency
Four weeks residency between 4th of November – 2nd of December.
