Design and execution of street set as part of Barcelona neighbourhood celebration

For artists, designers, scenography makers, craft makers interested in cooperative streetart project

THE PROJECT

Jiwar intends to support Gràcia street associations with international artists and designers that will contribute to enhance the artistic and human quality of their work. 4 artists from different countries will be selected and assigned every one to a street.

They will bring new ideas and practices in design, team work, materials, reuse and recycling, etc. The artist must not expect to build his/her own project. Instead he/her will contribute and fit into a group that have been working together for many years. At the same time they will learn about Gràcia and her rich artistic and social life and establish a real human connection with the neighborhood beyond artificial tourism. Pelase take into consideration that is more a community sharing experience than an individual artistic project.

Furthermore the artists will benefit from the usual artistic support for residents: welcome diner, connection with artists communities in Barcelona, public events in the Jiwar Garden, etc. (see more details inwww.jiwarbarcelona.com)

CALENDAR
The whole process lasts 6 months from March to August 2013. The project has three key moments. Ideally the same artist would be present in the three phases. Artists could also apply for 6 months residency and dedicate their time to the whole process.

Phase 1 : DESIGN
On the base of the idea chosen by the street association, the artist will contribute to development of the design, determination of materials and definition of production procedures. Time: March 2013 Minimum stay: 15 days

Phase 2 : WORKSHOP PRODUCTION
The artist will contribute to the execution of the set. From April to June. Minimum stay : 15 days

Phase 3 : SET ASEMBLY
The artist will participate in the last week intense set installation before opening. He will stand to interact with visitors and of course enjoy the Festa Major. Time: from 5th to 20th of August 2013 PRICES Unfortunately, Jiwar don't have any financial support for this project. Artists will have to pay the fees of their residence. Residence one phase (15 days ) : 770€ Residence two phases (30 days) : 1.399€ Residence for six months (total 6 months): 6.000€ Prices do not include meals. Residents are responsible for purchasing or cooking their own meals in the residence Kitchen.
