Self-Directed Residencies for Artists & Writers

Work and stay in the Greater Vernon community, lovely Okanagan Valley in British Columbia, Canada.

Description of Self-Directed residency program for Artists and Writers 
The Caetani Cultural Centre offers artists and writers creative living and working spaces in an independent community atmosphere for self-directed residencies, providing time, support and room for creativity, at affordable rates. Applicants must be self-motivated and able to work independently.

Duration of residency 
The length of residencies may vary, from 2 weeks up to 6 months, depending upon availability and to suit the individual needs of the applicant. Please specify the preferred time period for the residency and length of stay for project in your application form.

Disciplines supported and technical information
The Self-Directed residency program is open to emerging and established visual artists in any medium, writers, musicians, curators, cultural researchers, musicians and performing artists. The Self-Directed Residencies are not sponsored or themed. Participants pursue individualized programs outlined in their proposals, and there is a fee which varies according to the requirements of the individual participant.

The accommodation during this residency program includes: 
• Private one bedroom (queen-sized bed, clothes storage, desk with chair).
• Double occupancy may be considered. Please indicate on your application form.
• Shared 4 piece full bathroom
• Shared kitchen/dining area.
• Shared communal gathering space in the Library
• Parking for one vehicle onsite
• Bed linens, towels, and cleaning supplies are provided by the Centre.
• Coin operated laundry onsite
• Access to Internet, and Library
• Artists are responsible for their own travel, health insurance, food requirements, materials, equipment, and should have their own transportation.

Studio/ workspace
A studio/workspace is included at the Caetani Cultural Centre. 

Fees and support 
All fees for the Self-Directed program include a private room, shared living accommodations and private studio/workspace. The fees are individually based on the needs of the applicant, and pro-rated on length of stay and workspace requirements. Fees do not exceed more than $20/night (Canadian funds), and are as low as $10/night. Participants are expected to provide their own food, healthcare, materials, and transportation. Fees do not include travel expenses, food, health insurance, art materials, shipping, exhibition costs, or other personal expenses.

Expectations towards the artist 
Participants may decide to contribute to community workshops, presentations and/or exhibitions locally. Although encouraged, there is no requirement to do so for the Self-Directed programs.

Application information
Some programs may have deadlines - please check our website Unless otherwise indicated, applications are ongoing for the self-directed programs, however generally applicants are suggested to apply at least 3 months prior to the required time period to ensure consideration. All applications are adjudicated by a professional adjudication panel.

Selection process
A selection committee composed of arts professionals will review and select candidates for the program.
