Small Pond Arts rural residencies

An inspiring rural retreat for creators of all disciplines.

Description of residency program
Small Pond Arts hosts self-directed artist residencies on our beautiful 87-acre art farm in Prince Edward County, Ontario, Canada.

Located just five minutes from the quaint town of Picton but completely surrounded by nature, visiting artists will discover a place where creativity is valued and nurtured, where they can concentrate on their craft, free from the pressures of daily life. A short drive from stunning beaches, wineries, and shopping.

Duration of residency
Residencies from 2 to 30 days available from May through September, and we welcome artists of any discipline.

Disciplines, work equipment and assistance
Visual Art, Sculpture, Theatre, Performing Arts, Textile Art, Music, Literature, New Media, Animation, Film Making. Basic workshop and studio tools available.

Our 1860s heritage home has four guest bedrooms, each with a double bed and desk, and our farm has plenty of room for camping.

Studio/ workspace
We have two studio spaces, The Art Barn and The Workshop.

We regret that our facility may not be appropriate for those with mobility issues.

Fees and support
$180 (2 days) to $1620 (30 days). No financial support available, but can provide support letters to seek funding.

Expectations towards the artist
We eat our meals together, encourage the exchange of ideas, and value living simply and sustainably. Residency includes 3 delicious meals per day, mostly vegetarian, and much of our food is grown in our garden.

Campers must provide all their own gear. Indoor guests are provided with bedding and towels.

Residents are expected to contribute up to one hour of chores per day. This is usually dish washing, but could include cooking, light cleaning, or gardening, and are flexible based on residents' preferences.
