Description of residency program
Vermont Studio Center (VSC) is thrilled to announce 79 new residency fellowships to be awarded at our February 15th, 2019 Fellowship Deadline!

Duration of residency
Each month, VSC welcomes over 50 artists and writers from across the country around the world to our historic campus in northern Vermont. Most residents stay with us for 1 month, so our sessions adhere to a 4-week calendar; however, residencies can be scheduled in 2-week increments ranging from 2 to 12 weeks if a shorter or longer stay better suits your needs.

Disciplines, work equipment, and assistance
Artists and writers of all disciplines, perspectives, demographics, and media are encouraged to apply. Admission is competitive and based on review of portfolio and/or manuscript. All residents have 24/7 access to an assigned a private studio, communal buildings, and well-equipped facilities for painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, and writing.

Accommodation - Studio/ workspace
All of our residencies include:

– A private room in modest, shared housing

– 24-hour access to a private studio space in one of our 6 medium-specific studio buildings

– 3 communal meals per day (plus fresh fruit, coffee/tea/cold beverages, and cereal available around the clock)

Fees and support
All applicants at the February 15th, 2019 deadline will be automatically considered for one of twenty-seven (27) VSC Fellowships open to ALL artists and writers living and working anywhere in the world. In addition, we will be awarding 14 open discipline-specific awards: 4 for writers, 4 for painters, 3 for poets, and 3 for visual artists. A number of fellowships with special eligibility requirements will also be awarded (many with stipends), including residency fellowships for artists and writers of color with demonstrable financial need; artists working in clay, fiber, glass, metal, and wood; 2D visual artists working in painting, drawing, or printmaking; socially-engaged teaching artists and more! Numerous generous merit-based partial funding grants will also be awarded.

Expectations towards the artist
One of the most unique aspects of the VSC residency program is an opportunity for cross-pollination between visual artists and writers. Throughout each month, we host four Visiting Artist lectures, two Visiting Writer readings, three Resident Readings, four Resident Slide Nights, and two Open Studios events. Participation is not required, but all are welcome and encouraged to enjoy these optional opportunities for enrichment and discussion throughout the residency month. Below is more information about each of these programs.
