General information

Brief description of organisation

The Sydney Olympic Park artist-in-residence program provides an opportunity for local and international artists to live and work within the community of artists at Newington Armory, a unique heritage-listed site at the Olympic precinct.

Sydney Olympic Park Authority, the organisation that funds the program, is responsible for the management and development of the 700 hectare precinct, which includes large parklands, major sporting and and entertainment venues and a growing community of businesses and residents.

Brief description of residency program

The program is managed by the Arts unit of Sydney Olympic Park Authority and is part of our effort to create a unique arts and cultural dimension for the township being created at the Park. The program can accommodate a maximum of 4 participants at one time (or 5 if two successful applicants happen to be a couple), and each will have a room within a restored cottage on the site and access to well-equipped studio and workshop facilities. The Armory precinct, while only 13kms from the centre of Sydney, has a tranquil rural quality – it is bordered to the east by the Newington Nature Reserve, a woodland and wetland area of high ecological value and to the north by the Parramatta River. A fee of $55 per week Australian dollars is charged. The fee can be waived, at the Authority's discretion, if the artist's proposal will deliver definite artistic outcomes for Sydney Olympic Park, e.g. creation of a temmporary public artwork or similar.
