20-07-10 17:01
Age: 50 days

When: 2011/2012
Afrique Profonde encourages cross-cultural dialog, understanding and education through artistic exchange with individuals and groups within Africa and beyond. In essence, Afrique Profonde celebrates diverse peoples through the arts.
We would like to tour a projected exhibition, we are looking for venues to show late 2011, early 2012 (length of exhibition is flexible) and would very much like to approach your institution for project partnership.
Afrique Profonde Residency Scheme is working with a London Based Artist Flora Parrott (Tintype Gallery), as Parrott will be one of the Artists in residence 2011. The program takes Artists to the Congo to enable a platform for collaboration and exchange with the ‘Pygmy’ communities and the traditional culture of the Congo. The residency will be a focussed time to cultivate research and work during a 12-week trip in the deeply-rooted cultures of the Congo basin rainforest. The objects and recordings made will be exhibited in London in 2011 and will become part of a larger, academic body of work conducted by Marius Billy and Afrique Profonde.
Time-Line:
Please contact us for further details of the research and development proposal and exhibition plan from now to April 2011.
Type of partners:
We are looking for spaces in Galleries, Universities, Museums and other related locations, which can provide a space for a series of images, objects film and sound recordings (which can be selected and adapted to suit a particular space). We would also like to hold a small, formal event during the course of the exhibition in which we invite speakers and screen some footage
Artist resume:
Flora Parrott studied Fine Art at the Michaelis School of Art in Cape Town, The Glasgow School of Art, and then went on to graduate from the Royal College of Art with a Masters in Printmaking in 2009.
