Dear Sir / Madame,
We are pleased to invite you to participate in “RE-TOOLING RESIDENCIES. International Conference on Artistic Residencies”, being held in Warsaw, Poland, from November 16th through 19th 2009. The conference will be organized as the first Eastern European Res Artis Meeting. It will provide a platform for critical reworking of both existing and emerging residency models.
The conference will be hosted by the artists-in-residence laboratory at the Centre for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle during the opening of the International Centre for Artistic Exchange, where the new studios will be situated. Trying to meet new demands stemming from its development, a-i-r laboratory invites you to a discussion on the possible future shape of artistic residencies practices, with Eastern Europe becoming a significant partner in a worldwide network of residential organizations. The scope of the conference relates both to its program and to the presence of participants from new EU-member countries and beyond.
The conference will present different strategies of residencies: production, interdisciplinary collaboration (i.e. arts and science), development of local culture scenes. Invited specialists will lead workshops on financing, administrating, and cooperation between different institutions. The subjects of organizing and updating residencies will be topics for panel discussions. RE-TOOLING RESIDENCIES will create a space for established members and emerging locales to recognize their strengths and understand the conditions in which they operate. We hope that these networking activities, studio and gallery visits, and the opportunity to meet old and new colleagues can enable participants to start new cooperations.
The registration will start on August 14th. Please find more detailed description of the program and information on conditions of participation in the attachment. The conference is limited to a size of 100 participants, therefore we suggest you to register as soon as registration starts.
“RE-TOOLING RESIDENCIES. International Conference on Artistic Residencies and Eastern European Res Artis Meeting” is supported by The European Commission, Adam Mickiewicz Institute, Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, City of Warsaw, Polish Culture Institute in New York, Trust for Mutual Understanding.
