Are members of Res Artis all working in the field of the arts?
Res Artis members provide residencies for artists in the broadest sense of the word. Activities include literature, performance, music, architecture, film, theatre, etcerera. Organizations often work with different disciplines at the same time and do not only foster intercultural exchange, but also interdisciplinary crossings.
Do I have to be a member of Res Artis to be eligible for a residency at one of the Res Artis member-organisations?
No. Each member of Res Artis has its own policy and criteria for the residencies it organizes. Res Artis has no involvement in the programme or selection procedure of its members and does not organise a residency program of its own.
Is Res Artis a network for residencies from Europe and North-America?
No, Res Artis is a world-wide network with over 300 artists residencies in more than 50 countries. It was initiated in 1993. Still at this time a large part of its members reside in Europe and the USA. In recent years more and more organizations from other continents have been joining Res Artis, and with support of the Ford Foundation the network has started extensive actions to broaden and diversify the network with more residencies from other parts in the world. See also the diversity project text in this website.
Does Res Artis organize its own residency programme and art projects?
No, Res Artis is a platform for artists-residency-organizations to meet, network and exchange and discuss ideas. All activities it organizes are directed to making the work of and exchange between these residencies easier. These activities are for example network meetings and the website. It does not organize its own residency programme or art projects.
Is Res Artis a pressure group for the needs of arts residencies?
Although Res Artis is an advocate for artists residencies world-wide, it is not a pressure group. Through active participation in lobby networks like the European Forum of Arts and Heritage it does voice the needs and wants of artists in residencies also in the political arena.
